Qualifications for Elected Office
Qualifications for a candidate are:
- Be a United States citizen at the time of filing;
- Be a registered voter of the municipality;
- Be a resident of the municipality or a resident of the recent annexed area for a period of 12 consecutive months immediately preceding the date of election.

How do I file for elective office?
Each person seeking to become a candidate for a municipal office must file a Declaration of Candidacy, in person with the city recorder beginning June 1, 2023 through June 7, 2023, during regular office hours.
An individual may designate an agent to file a declaration of candidacy with the City Recorder if:
- The individual is located outside of the state during the entire filing period;
- The designated agent appears in person before the City Recorder;
- The individual communicates with the city recorder using an electronic device that allows the individual and city recorder to see and hear each other; and
- The individual provides the City Recorder with an email address to which the City Recorder may send the individual copies of Section 20A-7-801 and Section 20A-9-206.

Voter Qualifications and Registration Information
Voter Registration is open to all Tooele County residents that are:
- Citizens of the United States
- Residents of Utah for at Least 30 days prior to Election Day
- At least 18 years old on the day of the election
- Residing at the address where they are registering
Registration Deadlines
By Mail Registration Deadline
Voter registration forms must be postmarked at least 30 days before an election in order to be eligible to vote in the upcoming election.
In-Person Registration and Online Registration Deadlines
For the August 10, 2021 Primary Election, the last day to register will be July 30, 2021. This includes in-person (by appointment only) and On-line Registration. There will be registration and address changes on election day.

When do I need to re-register?
Voter registration is valid for life, unless you
- Move
- Change your name, or
- Wish to affiliate with a different party, or
- Your record is made inactive if you don't vote in 2 General Elections
Check Your Registration
To ensure you receive a ballot, make sure you are registered and your mailing address is up to date. Please visit vote.utah.gov to determine if you are registered, or to check that your voter registration is current.
Vote by Mail
Tooele County is a "Vote By Mail" County, which means that every voter who is registered will be mailed a ballot. Ballots will be mailed out the week of July 19, 2021. Voted ballots must be postmarked no later than August 9, 2021 in order to count in the Primary Election.
If you do not want to mail your voted ballot, you may drop your ballot in any of the Ballot Drop Boxes in Tooele County.
